The Right To Read (2023), produced by LeVar Burton, explores what NAACP activist Kareem Weaver deems the paramount civil rights issue of our era: childhood literacy. Weaver embarks on a mission to uplift low reading scores in his hometown of Oakland, California. Through personal anecdotes from Weaver, insights from a dedicated teacher, and narratives of two American families, The Right to Read delves deep into the battle to equip our youngest generation with this fundamental skill essential for lifelong success: the ability to read.
